My Why

I started writing grants in the early 2000s—without even realizing it. At the time, I was a caseworker at a nonprofit in Pittsburgh, simply stepping in to help my supervisor complete grant reports. I didn’t know then that those moments would spark a lifelong passion and career path.

Working in the nonprofit field, I quickly saw how deeply connected programming is to grant reporting. Year after year, I helped craft proposals and track outcomes, learning the importance of documentation, storytelling, and clear communication with funders. These early experiences laid the foundation for everything I do today. Thank you Becky H!

Over the years, I’ve served on the boards of several organizations—including The Neighborhood Academy, Hope for Tomorrow, and Zealous Hope. Through these roles, I came to truly understand the value of board engagement. A strong board isn’t just about titles—it’s about showing up, sharing your gifts, and committing to the mission in real and meaningful ways.

With a background in social work, teaching psychology, and sociology, I’ve spent my career studying people and helping communities—what strengthens them, what challenges them, and how we can make a difference when we come together with purpose.

Today, I bring all of that experience into I.S. Grant Writing & Business Consulting, where I help smaller nonprofits build the skills, systems, and confidence they need to succeed. I know firsthand how hard it can be to do big things with limited resources. That’s why I’ve created a practical, easy-to-use workbook, worksheets, and templates that simplify the grant process and support strong reporting practices.

This isn’t just about securing funding—it’s about building sustainable organizations that create lasting impact.

If you’ve used my tools and found success, I’d love to hear from you. Your story could inspire someone else who’s just getting started.

Let’s keep making it happen—together.
